for Foreign Policy Studies
The Centre
will be hosting a panel discussion on Nov. 13th from 12:30
- 2:00 in the Lord Dalhousie Room of the A&A.
Everyone
is welcome and refreshments will be provided. The panelists
will speak for the first hour and the remaining 30 minutes
will be for a question and answer period.
The
panel consists of:
Ambassador James Bissett
Ambassador Bissett is the former Executive Director of the
Canadian Immigration Service and is a critic of Canada's current
immigration and refugee policy. He recently published "Canada's
Asylum System: A Threat to American Security?" for the
Center for Immigration Studies and appeared on CBS's 60 Minutes
to discuss his concerns about
Canada's immigration policy.
Lee Cohen
Mr. Cohen is an immigration lawyer who specializes in immigration
and human rights matters. He has assisted hundreds of foreign
nationals seeking entry into Canada. He is the former chair
of the Canadian Bar Association - Nova Scotia Branch Immigration
Law Section and has appeared before Canadian parliamentary
committees to comment upon
proposed amendments to immigration legislation. He is the
founder of the Halifax Refugee Clinic.
Joseph Rikhof
Mr. Rikhof received his law degree from the University of
Nijmegen (Netherlands). He also studied law at the University
of British Columbia and McGill University. He has been employed
with the Department of Justice since 1987. His area of expertise
in the last
decade lies in the area of the law related to organized crime,
terrorism, genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity,
especially in the context of immigration and refugee law.
