    1. News from the AMC

    The AMC is pleased to announce the results of its 3rd Annual Grant Competition. The adjudication of proposals was conducted by a multi-disciplinary external committee. Based on the Committee’s recommendations, the following research projects will be funded:

    4. Post – 10th National Metropolis Conference

    The Atlantic Metropolis Centre and the Metropolis Secretariat would like to extend sincere expression of gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the recent 10th National Metropolis Conference in Halifax.

    Workshop presenters were given the option of making their presentations available on the web at www.metropolis2008.net.

    The plenary sessions were videotaped for televised broadcast on CPAC (the Cable Public Affairs Channel). The sessions are now available online at www.cpac.ca.

    Sacred and Secular in a Global Canada will focus on a range of disciplinary aspects regarding religious presence and diversity within the Canadian social landscape. Some topics to be covered include: public policy, reasonable accommodation, immigration, community identity, intergenerational changes, First Nations spirituality, Judaism, Islam, and many others.     New Directions in Population Health Research: Linking Theory, Ethics and Practice

    The Community and Population Health Research (CPHR) Training Program and the Saskatchewan Population Health and Evaluation Research Unit (SPHERU) are hosting a national conference to explore recent innovations and existing or emerging trends in population health research as they relate to reducing health disparities for particular communities or populations. The conference will provide an opportunity for academic and community researchers, policy makers and practitioners to highlight the current state of population health research in Canada and abroad.     Comings and Goings: Migration, Policy and Society / Va-et-vient : Migration, politique et société

    The Statistics Canada Research Data Centre (RDC) Program invites researchers from any disciplinary field to present their findings at its sixth annual conference. The theme of the conference is migration, both international and internal. The Carleton Ottawa Outaouais Local (COOL) RDC will host the conference at the University of Ottawa.
